Well as you can see I'm not much of a food photographer. Nevertheless I want to share the recipe for my favorite broccoli salad. It's perfect for any time of year. The sauce adds just a hint of sweetness, and if anyone likes a bit of sweet it's me.
Ingredients for the sauce:
1 cup mayonnaise (use the real thing instead of Miracle Whip, you'll be glad you did)
3 tablespoons white vinegar
1/4 cup sugar
Ingredients for the salad:
2 bunches of broccoli, washed and using only the flower heads
8 slices of bacon cooked and cut into small pieces
1 small red onion chopped or sliced-your choice (I use about half of the onion)
1/2 cup roasted sunflower seeds -no hulls
Instructions:
Mix the sauce ingredients together in a small bowl until smooth and keep cool in the fridge.
Mix all the salad ingredients thoroughly, then pour in the sauce and mix well.
Keep refrigerated until time to serve.
You can also add halved grapes or raisins.
I hope you enjoy this salad as much as I do.

This is one of our all-time faves, too, Alice... when this is on the menu, there are NO leftovers, no matter how much we make they just keep eatin' til it's gone LOL. We also add some finely shredded old Cheddar (just a bit, though, it can overpower).
I agree 100% about the real mayo: we stopped buying the "pretend" brand and went to authentic mayo years ago, along with whole eggs and actual butter. It's rough eating the copycat plastic foods after you develop a taste for whole foods, isn't it? (I love that mayo is one of those foods you can make at home; I used to when the children were young, but when my blender conked out I never replaced it.)
I love this salad so will give your recipe a try soon. I like broccoli raw but interestingly not cooked so much! I too like whole foods and I believe that we should eat more like our ancestors did - real butter included. My grandmother lived to be 101 and she lived in her own home until then.
This looks delicious! i will definetly be trying out the recipe this week! I love raw brocolli, and only like it cooked if it is mixed with something...anything!
I switched to mayo, too. And I cannot stand margarine!
BTW: it's the bacon in this recipe that has my mouth watering!
This sounds delish!! Much of the broccoli salad I've had before has had raisins in it. As such, I've had to pick them all out to eat the stuff. This sounds perfect for me. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I had to come back to tell you that I made this salad today..what a hit! It was fabulous! Thank you again for sharing!
