52 Photos Reminisce

52 week badge
This week we are to capture a photo that takes us back to our childhood.  Since my dad was such a saver I have many things I could photograph, such as the ceramic pots and pitchers I made in high school art class, or the Disney lunch pail I used while in grade school, or a tiny tea set my sisters and I enjoyed with Pepsi M&M's and cookies, and so many more.

But the thing that makes me reminisce about my childhood is this....

Dad kept probably close to 100 of these reel-to-reel and 8mm movies.  I remember we would break out the projector and the screen when company came to visit. We only had three TVchannels and this was something different and fun. Plus, mom would always make a large bowl of  popcorn for us.

I remember the sound of the film passing through the projector, and I can still recall the musty smell of the large screen, both of which my dad still has.
I loved watching these old movies, especially the ones of my mom and dad when they were a young couple living on the east coast. They are even more special now since mom passed away.

Thank you for stopping by.  I hope you have a chance to fondly reminisce about your own childhood.
Be sure to visit Sally's Blog to see what memories were stirred up this week.
And please say a prayer or two for the residents in Moore Oklahoma.

Oh I wish that we had movies of when we were younger. Those film reels really remind of the movies that they would show in class.

I remember, too, only having 3 TV channels...I have over 400 now and there is still hardly anything on TV worth watching! I wish I had films like you had! Have a safe weekend!

We only had 2 channels until I was 10 or 11 then an independant channel started up. Dad took slides, we didn't have a movie camera when I was growing up. Need to sort those slides some day.... But I have a hard enough time keeping up with my digital pictures!

I too remember only having 3 chanels to choose from. Wish we would have had movies like yours to watch - how wonderful to have such cherished memories from those. It's been really fun reading about everyone's memories!

What a blessing to have those movies. Yes, television of our youth brings back memories of watching Bonanza and the Lawrence Welk Show every Sunday with my grandfather. I still catch episodes of Lawrence Welk occasionally as I flip through channels and it sure is a hoot!

My parents had a few home movies. I have no idea what happened to them. How special that you still have yours.

I loved watching our old home movies, too. My Dad also had film from his Navy days that I loved to watch and he'd narrate. It was a little embarrassing when he'd bring everything out when folks would visit, because you never knew if the guests were being polite or really interested. : )

Oh my...you just brought back great memories when you showed the pic of the reel to reels. We would do the same thing - dad would set up the screen and projector and mom would make popcorn for me and my brother. We would watch movies of dad and mom in Alaska or movies of my grandparents. Oh thank you for brining back those memories for me and sharing your memories with us!

How lucky you are to have all those home movies. My family took photos but never movies. I think it would be a real treat to see one's parents in a home when they were younger .

Alice it's great that you still have the old movies. My Mom has dozens of picture albums but it's not the same as a movie would be.
