52 Photos Aged Beauty

52 week badge

Our assignment is to photograph things with aged beauty. I think Sally's original intention was to share one photo each week, but I'm finding that I can't seem to share just one.  I hope you don't mind.

Sally quotes:
"Aged pieces have a beauty all their own, a beauty that draws us in to look a little deeper into a past time."

These are some old books I use for props on my jewelry table at shows. My dad has dozens of them. Some are Swedish, others are hymn books. There is a variety.  I just love these old books and wonder about the people who used them in their daily life.

This book is very fragile but so beautiful.

Old Things are More Beautiful
(Clay Harrison)
Old things are more beautiful
than many things brand new
Because they bring fond memories
of things we used to do.
Old photographs in albums,
love letters tied with lace
Recapture those old feelings
that new ones can't replace.
Baby shoes, a Teddy bear,
a ring that grandma wore,
Are treasures waiting there behind
a door marked "Nevermore".
Old things are more beautiful,
more precious day-by-day.
Because they are the flowers
we planted yesterday.

Many thanks for stopping by.  Please check Sally's blog to see the other participants.

Fantastic. Love the old books. I have "Stories of Popular Operas" (1904) facing me right now.

They don't bind books like they used to.

i can't believe i didn't even think of old books! too busy bewailing a lack of family heirlooms! i guess, as i've bought all my books, old and new, i don't distinguish them... funny that!

I remember the adventures of Reddy Fox... don't think our copy was quite that old... I have a shelf full of old mystery stories that I inherited from my grandmother/aunt... I have read most of them...

Beautiful, beautiful books. I am always drawn to them at yard sales etc. It is fun to think of the time when they were "popular" and what all those hands and eyes thought.

Lovely poem... beautiful old books. There's something about going into an old bookstore with that distinctive smell that touches my soul.

Gorgeous 'models' for the prompt this week: I love everything antique, but books hold a special place in my heart. I do remember how I used to enter an antique book store in our visits to the capital city: you hold them and you can feel the stories they could tell you if they could.
Lovely poem - thank you for sharing!
