Our challenge this week, as you may have guessed, is a macro shot.
It seems like it's taken a long time for Spring to arrive here. But Tuesday was bright and sunny so I took the opportunity to enjoy the day, and took my camera along. Many of our trees were just now showing some tiny buds. What better way to celebrate spring than capturing these tiny buds in a photo.
These tiny buds were found on our Japanese Lilac tree. When it is in full bloom the scent is heavenly.
These pinkish buds are from one of our Ornamental Pear trees, though the flowers will come out white.
From our Maple Tree, gorgeous colored buds.
We have about 16 trees in our yard. In addition to the trees above we have a ginkgo tree, an apple tree, Chinese Elms, Pin Oaks, a Japanese Bloodgood, and several Austrian Pines.
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain
Who intimately lives with rain
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
~Joyce Kilmer (1886-1918)

I love spring... although I liked it better in the prairies it seemed to be a real season there... here we seem to go from winter to summer and some years that doesn't happen until August! YOur buds are giving me hope!
Love your spring buds! One of the great category of things to look at close up, that we may miss otherwise.

Ahhh yes spring. How many times is Mother Nature going to tease us...I live in Florida and I feel so bad for the plants. Just when they were really starting to bloom, BAM, cold weather! So I guess they are starting again. Great pictures, beautiful colors. Great job.
Greetings from Carolina! I'm bored to death at work so I decided to browse your site on my iphone during lunch break. I love the knowledge you present here and can't wait
to take a look when I get home. I'm surprised at how fast your blog loaded on my phone .. I'm not even using WIFI, just 3G

Lovely, Lovely shots, such beautiful colours
Nice to see some spring foliage. I've not seen a Japanese lilac before, might have to search for one for the yard.
I love the little buds. I bet they will all be gorgeous when in bloom.
Beautiful buds - I feel like I am touching spring! a beautiful feel!
The poem is lovely too - and although here it's not spring yet, we managed to enjoy the outdoors a lot today: we hiked for 2 hours :)
Lovely poem and equally lovely macros!! I would love to smell your lilacs when they bloom. Lilacs are my fav!

Wonderful post! I am more than ready for spring....
Awesome! I love floral close ups!
What an incredible assortment of trees you have - you must have such a gorgeous yard!
I enjoyed your update in your last post, btw. I hope your daughter is getting settled in - in her new home in NC. I know you must miss her and it is so tough being apart over Easter and her birthday. Hope you'll be reunited soon!
I love all of the closeups you captured, the buds and their individual colors and textures are wonderful, especially that last one, looks like a sea anemone of sorts. Your yard must be beautiful through the seasons!
