Happy Birthday Mom

Today is mom's birthday. She would have been 79 today. Mom passed away June 23rd of last year from stage 4 metastatic, malignant melanoma. It was a difficult and painful journey for her, but she never complained to anyone about what she endured. She was determined to beat it so she could spend more time with the kids and grandchildren, but it was not meant to be.

Though I miss her terribly, I'm so thankful she is not suffering any more. I am very grateful for the many years we spent together, all the family vacations we took together, all the celebrations, and my daily visits for lunch at our favorite eating establishment--Pizza Hut. But what I miss most is her youthful attitude, her fierce love for her family, her ability to see the good in everything, and her never-ending generosity and compassion to those less fortunate than her.

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.” John 10:27-29

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

“Has this world been so kind to you that you should leave with regret? There are better things ahead than any we leave behind.” ~ C.S. Lewis

A lovely tribute to your mother, Alice. As much as you surely miss her, how blessed you are to have such memories. Peace to you!

Alice, what a beautiful post in memory of your Mother...she was a beautiful lady and must have been so loved. It sounds like she had such a full life and that the two of you spend so much quality time together. I smiled at the memory of lunches at Pizza Hut. I take my kids to the lunch buffet there every once in a while and eat too many bread sticks. :-) Sending you a hug, Alice!!
