52 Weeks A Pop of Red

52 week badge
It stands to reason that our assignment this week is to find a pop of red. After all December has lots of potential for finding red.  So here is my pop of red.

Us girls each got one of these Santa mugs when we were young.  I remember drinking hot chocolate or milk out of these mugs, and sometimes even Pepsi--my mom's favorite drink.
I'm so glad these mugs were kept and later passed on to us.  They bring back lots of fond memories.

Beautiful books about Christmas, all in red.

And a book from my childhood. It still has some flocking on the red parts but as I took photos I noticed the book is falling apart. I remember reading this book over and over as a child and later reading it to our own young children.

I love the whimsical art and the bright cheery vintage colors.

As I write this post I have to wonder if the children today will cherish such things from their youth.  New toys and electronic gadgets are being spewed out into the market so fast, and in the blink of the eye they are already old news.  E-readers are taking the place of books, and Christmas cards are sent electronically. What memories will our children remember as they grow older......what possessions will they cherish?

And this shall be a sign unto you; You shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

Blessings to you through the Christmas Season!

I don't like ebooks...I really like turning pages and going back to check details.. Our house is full of real books!

I agree with you about questioning what the children of today will cherish.

My husband and I were discussing how even cartoons used to be special--Saturday mornings only. Now, children have an entire network on cable and can't seem to even take a car trip to the grocery store without a dvd/blue ray playing a cartoon in headrest in front of them! There is immediate gratification and no wait to build up an appreciation. I can remember the excitement of waiting for the once-yearly broadcast of Wizard of Oz.

The waning interest in real books is especially saddening. I think there are much better ways to save trees than pushing downloads to e-readers. How about more recycling and post-consumer recycled paper products?

You are so lucky that you have that fabulous Santa mug from your childhood. What a treasure.

We love Night Before Christmas - Greg read it every Christmas Eve as a kid and now we do that with our own kids :-) Save that book!

What nostalgia! We had one of those mugs too although I haven't a clue what happened to it. How nice that you still have yours as a reminder of such happy childhood memories.

Your pops of red are wonderfully seasonal and warm. I wouldn't worry about keepsakes, I think the interest in both old things and crafts and artwork, will see to that.

Oh my goodness Alice - your mug stopped me dead in my tracks! Years ago when I moved to AZ, my sister gifted me with all of her Christmas ornaments/decorations that she wasn't using (she had tons!!) and among them was this exact mug, hand painted by her high school friend, Wanda. Wanda hand painted Santa entirely White - hat and all! (no red anywhere on him, so he didn't make this week's prompt!!) I love this mug and have put candy canes in it each year and have often wondered if there were others like it. I will snap a pic of him and contact you so you can see him. I too often wonder if children have things with deep memories and meanings like we did as little ones. Thanks for sharing all your wonderful items, they are beautiful and have brought tears of lovely memories to my eyes!!

Lovely memories of Christmases past, Alice! Your santa mug is adorable, and I agree about the lack of beautiful memorabilia such as these in future years...

Love that Santa mug - bet it's perfect for hot chocolate! And I love the vintage book - the colours are so distinctive, aren't they?

I love ebooks and new fancy tech toys, but I really love and cherish my older, vintage toys and collectibles that have been kept in the family for years. I could never part with such treasures.

OHhhhhh I have that book...somewhere...packed with my other old ones... how wonderful to remember....it is a shame kids today don't have that....And I have some Santa mugs...though not as in good of shape...my dad felt that everything should be washed in the dish washer and some of the paint has come off. Thanks so much for the memories!

I have a very similar mug from my childhood and a Christmas book too. Good job finding pops of red and bring back childhood memories.

What a sweet memory. I was just thinking about a little stuffed reindeer I used to pull out every Christmas, it's long gone and I wish I still had it. Blessings to you and your family too!
