Focusing on Life 52 Photos Week Two~ Our Word

Welcome to week two of Sally Russick's Focusing on Life 52 Photos.
This week we are focusing on the journey using our Word for the year.

My word for 2013 is Brave.
This year it's all about getting my business in order, learning new techniques, and tying new things to promote my business.Typically I'm timid when trying new things as I mentioned in this post. But there's no time to be timid now because my business is this close to becoming a hobby.  And I certainly don't want that to happen.

Here is my photo for this assignment.  I used a vintage travel case (which reeks of musty stuff).  Inside are just some of the goals I have for this year: exploring riveting and cold connections with a DVD by Helen Driggs, Learning (again) how to solder with Kate Richbourg's book 'Simple Soldering', and actually making pieces inspired by my favorite jewelry magazines. I hoard these jewelry books but I realize they aren't just there to look pretty, though they do that anyway. There so much more that I want to try, like the Coiling  Gizmo which is still in it's original package, and though it is not related to jewelry, I want to start eating healthier even if it is just one or two days a week.

Having a bit of fun with Picasa's 'soften' tool.

Thanks for stopping by. Please check Sally's blog to see the rest of the participants photos.

You are so right. Our words are so similar! I have that DVD-awesome! I have many jewelry books and DVD's, and Healthy Living magazines and cookbooks! I, too, must start putting all of these aides to work! I am cheering you on!!!!

Done deal, Alice! The day you get your coiling gizmo out of the box, I will get mine out too. We shall be brave and conquer the techniques this year :)

Love the picture, especially after the softening.

Thanks for reminding me, I too have a stash of books that I need to work through and not just enjoy the pictures. Brave is a great word to use and that case is adorable

oh I think we all have those 'coffee table' bead magazines ... I can get lost looking through them. But you are so right - they are there to be put to use! Today I will be trying a new to me technique: soutache. Wish me luck!

Alice, brave is a great word and what it means to you is touching (not quit the word I want to say but I can't quite come up with the right words). I can relate to everything you said including having a coiling gizmo in the box. And I adore the photo you used to represent your word. You're going on a journey to find bravery!

Alice I have applauded you on your journey to start your business. You have written about the courage it has taken to make those steps. You are brave. I wish you the best in all your steps.

Love your briefcase photo. I have that Simple Soldering book and love it. Am trying to do the sampler lessons. Have finished #1 and already I need remediation. LOL
Your word is a good one. It takes bravery to go into business, I think. But in the end it is lots of fun too. See you next week.

That is such a great word. Sometimes we need to push ourselves to take that step. I know your year will be amazing and each goal will be easier than the last. Here's to being brave and taking that first step.

I too have a shelf full of inspiring books that I have been waiting (to find time) to dive into. They include a DVD titled "How to solder jewelry" by Lexi Erickson. Looks like many of us have similar goals!

Chase your dreams with abandon, believe, and Be Brave! I love your word, and the photos are both a lovely communication of your vision.

Awesome word and the your photos to show what you want to accomplish this year are awesome! You go!!!

I like your word choice! It seems that 'intimidation' is always trying to keep us back from diving in and enjoying new things. Sometimes I can't help but wonder, why are we even intimidated in the first place? Maybe we think we have to 'measure up' somehow? Maybe we feel someone is 'watching over our shoulder'. Whatever the reason, I am sure it is just a facade and if we can 'bust through' to the other side we will be amazed!! :)

Alice, what a cool case, even if it does smell musty - can't see that in the picture!

I think you already are brave!

As far as the 'Business' aspect of your word goes, it holds good for me too.. Identifying that as your goal was half the job done!

i like your word "Brave." I am real procrastinator when I try something new on my own. It looks like you have armed yourself with some good books and a good attitude.

Alice, I have really enjoyed my stop at your blog this evening. Firstly - I love your new blog banner...the original one was so serene and beautiful, and this one is beautiful as well!
I've thought of you as a brave soul all along - you always seem to jump in and get involved from challenges to supporting others. Your words really rang true for me as well....I am THAT close to basically hobby status as well. I really need a jump start and take things up a notch too. And that shelf of inspirational books? I have them as well. They look pretty ont he shelf, but they'd be even better in practice! :-)

I am afraid of so many things for so many reasons. I wish I was brave enough to choose brave for my word. Your photo is perfect and I wish you the best of luck with all you want to do!

Love the old travel case. Being brave enough to tackle all those goals. admirable!

I'm a book junkie... I actually do look at most of them, sitting in ferry lineups and riding on the ferry... the one useful thing to living on a small island is it allows me to really look at the books and magazines that I receive! You have a rather interesting typo at the beginning of your blog.. You have tying rather than trying... fibre is something that I real need to learn how to 'tye' into my jewellery designs!

I love the photo of the suitcase holding some of your dreams and desires. Although our words are different, our dreams are quite similar. I always thought it was general indecisiveness that held me back, but maybe I simply wasn't brave enough to actually make a decision. I really like the word you chose Alice! Go forth and be brave! =)

Alice, first I have to say that your new banner is great and so is your photo for this week. I love the old suitcase and I hope you find all the time you need to bravely jump into bringing your jewelry business full circle!! Great word!

You are embarking on a journey, and this is a wonderful image! I am with you on all of it. Finding balance in my life will include time for me and time for my family, time for work and time for creativity. Health and wellness. One of my goals is to learn something new each month from the books that I have toppling in my studio. I have selected 12 of them and I am picking out projects to learn from them. Each month I will dedicate myself to learning something new. I wish you joy in the journey in 2013. Enjoy the day. Erin

What a really lovely image of your word and what a FANTASTIC word. I may need to borrow it sometime.

Mmmm I think I might get that soldering book, it's a technique I'd like to try. Great photo, love the filter to soften the photo. Although it blurs it a little bit it also seems to focus things as well.

Great word and I love the treatment you gave the photo. Brave can mean so many things in life, taking control of your life, whether eating healthier or planning business strategies, is a very brave thing to do.
