30 Words Thursday Lovely

I never thought that I would see
A tomato as lovely as thee
Ripe and perfectly formed
Born in the winter chill
And tended to so lovingly
A blessing indeed.

My father in law recently built a small green house. This is just one of the tomatoes that came from that green house.  I can't wait to eat it.

Focus on Life One Word

Our assignment: Sally says:
There are so many words, a simple grouping of letters that bombard us everyday, that impact our everyday life.  They make us think, effect our purchasing of items and influence how we view ourselves.  This week we will focus on words.  What word speaks to you, makes you laugh, makes you feel good about your being and who you are in that moment.  Is there a word that stands out, you find interesting, you think is fun to say.

This is word found on a book titled 101 Best Family Card Games

When I was young Sundays were for going to church, followed by visiting family. And they still are.
I knew what family meant: Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins gathering around a table of food.
But it wasn't until my mom had cancer that I realized family meant much more.
It was our church family who visited and prayed for mom, and who served lunch at her funeral.
It was the people in our small town who sent cards and well wishes.
And it was the waitresses at Pizza Hut who took off work to attend her funeral.
So who's in your family? Let them know they are appreciated.

30 Words Thursday Morning Light

The morning greeted us with an amazing sight
I stood in awe at this generous gift
Overhead the geese were honking, communicating
As they journeyed on to their warmer home

(This photo was not edited other than cropping)

In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

Sweet Beads From Bead Swede

I was one of the winners of the ABS December challenge and my prize was a $50 gift certificate to Bead Swede Supplies.

Here is what I chose from her shop.

Honestly it was very difficult to choose from all those wonderful pieces and I could have taken them all.  Her enameled pieces are fantastic!

Thanks Kristen for your generous gift!!!

Focus on Life Self Portrait

Ugh... which was what I was thinking when Sally announced the assignment for this week. And the photo below shows just how much I dislike having my photo taken, and even worse when I have to take it myself!

But just because I love the Focus on Life Challenge I did this.

No makeup cuz I'm allergic to it all, a few wrinkles, and a bad hair day.
Check out Sally's blog for more self portraits.

Thirty Words Thursdays

Erin Prais-Hintz of Treasures Found has  issued an invitation to her 30 words Thursdays.
Just share a photo on Thursdays and write 30 words about that photo.
I mulled it over, and at first I didn't think I wanted to commit.  But here I am with no promises that it will be consistent. So here we go.

Stark beauty, this sycamore tree
Bare branches
Morning fog receding
Crisp, fresh air
A hushed quietness
Snow slowly disappearing
A morning dove calling out
Wishing I had worn my coat

Focus on Life silhouette

Our assignment this week was to do a silhouette. I have to confess I had a lot of trouble with this one. The sun would not cooperate this week and when it did I had only seconds to get the shot, thanks to my husband who helped.

This shot was taken on our deck and the little guy is one of the three wise men.

Into The Forest Challenge

Last fall Lisa Lodge asked if anyone wanted to participate in a challenge.  I quickly signed up because it was a forest theme, and I do love forests.

We were sent a collection of beads that fit the theme, and could also use beads from our stash.
Here are the beads I received. I'm a big fan of green!

'Mythical Forest'
Polymer Driftwood Shards from Scorched Earth
Green and Brown lampwork beads from Lisa Anderson included in the kit.
Vintaj earwires.

'Above the Forest Trees'
Green drops from the kit
Vintaj Components

'Springtime in the Forest'
A ceramic focal bead from Blueberri Beads from my stash
Most of the glass beads from the kit
And of course Vintaj chain.
The necklace is very long and slips over the head.

Thanks to Lisa for organizing this challenge and for the wonderful beads,  and to Lisa Anderson for the gorgeous lampwork beads.

I didn't get to use all the beads but I really enjoyed playing along.
Check out the links below to see what the other participants made with their kits.
