52 Weeks A Little Sparkle

52 week badge
I can't believe it's week 49 in our year long photo challenge!
This week our assignment is to add a little sparkle.
I am a sucker for all the things Christmas, especially the ones I remember from when I was young; vintage ornaments, Santa mugs, and those woodland elves that are up there in my blog header.
Long ago my dad, (who keeps everything) got rid of the vintage ornaments we used to have on our silver tree, which made me sad.
So this year I began hunting for similar ornaments in antique shops and etsy and found quite a few. Also I purchased a small tree to display these ornaments, which is the first thing you see when you walk in the front door.
So here are just a few of the vintage ornaments I purchased.

And  of course a topper!

"For unto us  a child is born. To us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. He shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace."

Beautiful! I would have been sad too - I'm actually sad I couldn't bring any of the ornaments from my mom's house to ours, there are a few that have special sentimental value for me. Last year I found some special old ornaments and I bought all of them :)

I had a sad ornament experience too! I had some ornaments that my grandmother made from dough, gingerbread people, stars and trees. They held up lo these many years. I pulled them down this year and they were beginning to falling apart, dust in my fingers. It was so hard to throw them away but no way to salvage them. Glad you decided to go out and find you own to keep the memory alive. Maybe I'll try to make my own new ones! By the way I love your new blog header!

Oh my goodness, this looks like the exact topper that used to be on our tree when I was a little girl! Thank you so much for posting these pics of the ornaments - they have brought back so many childhood Christmas memories!! They are all beautiful.

What a lovely post. You have gathered a wonderful set of vintage ornaments. My parents had a huge collection of vintage ornaments - including quite a few victorian - and my two sisters and I got to split them up a number of years ago when my parents decided to simplify their decorating. Every year it is so fun to get them out and remember this one and that one while I decorate my own tree. Thanks for this post!

When you wrote vintage I was expecting some really old ornaments. But those are ones I remembered having, so they can't be that old, right.

I think we have had every one of those ornaments! Many have not made it through the years. I would love to display the remaining ones if I could think of a cat-proof place to do it.

How beautiful! I can understand your being sad. What a great thing to collect because it can still remind you of your childhood.

Alice your collection of vintage ornaments is gorgeous. I have a few ornaments from my childhood and many more that I have collected over the years. I too love vintage ornaments. One favorite of mine came from a lady who had it on her first tree after marriage in 1934.

We never had a silver tree, but we sure had ornaments that looked just like the ones you got! Nestled among the strands of silver tinsel, they are the perfect image of my childhood Christmases!

I have a whole bunch of antique ornaments from my grandmother that I have held onto for a long time. They are too special to get rid of. Your new finds are great!
